One of the things I love the most about Charlottesville (“Cville”) is the abundance of delicious food. If you’ve spent anytime here, you know that there’s never a shortage of good places to eat in the town that was once named by Wine Magazine the “best town for food lovers”. Whether you’re looking to entertain your parents who are in town for the weekend, get a drink with someone you met on Tinder, or have a good meal with friends, the Corner in Charlottesville has it all. Future Hoos, residents of the town, and foodies everywhere, take note of what this UVA student has to say about some of the best places to eat in Charlottesville.
Places to take your Parents: The Virginian, Farm Bell Kitchen
For good food, good energy, and a place to take your parents, The Virginian and Farm Bell Kitchen are perfect. The creamy mac and cheese with a hash brown layered on top at The Virginian (“Virg”) is enough to make any parent understand the allure of UVA. With a small, hole-in-the-wall feel, Virg offers an intimate but casual dining experience, perfect for lunch or dinner. If instead you’re looking specifically for a breakfast and brunch option, take them to Farm Bell Kitchen. A block or two away from the hustle and bustle of the Corner, Farm Bell Kitchen offers delicious food, great mimosas, and an elegant dining experience. We know you want to impress your parents by showing them all that Cville has to offer, so be sure to take them to one of these incredible places. Trust me, you can’t go wrong.
Places to take your Tinder date: Trinity Irish Pub, Coupes
Meeting up with someone from Tinder can be scary, so you want to make sure you’re picking a place that’s casual and fun. For this reason, you should definitely go to Trinity (“Trin“) Irish Pub or Coupes. Both are restaurants/bars that offer good drinks at an affordable price, and appetizers that are perfect for a casual first date. The main difference between the two locations is the crowd you’ll be surrounded by. For somewhere more upbeat and lively where you’re bound to see someone you know, go to Trin. For a more peaceful and intimate setting, on the other hand, Coupes is the perfect place to be. Either way, you’re guaranteed to have a great time eating in Charlottesville.
Places to go with your BFFs: Asado Wing & Taco Company, Boylan Heights
If you’re looking for great food (and drinks) to complement your great company, Asado and Boylan are the places to be. Known for their delicious tacos and margaritas, Asado provides the perfect balance between a normal sit-down restaurant and a fun place to meet with friends, and they just recently added more outdoor dining space to accommodate all guests. Just a few doors down from Asado you’ll find Boylan Heights: a lively sports bar known for their incredible build-your-own burgers and fries. Whether you want to watch a sporting event from your table, grab a drink from the bar, or relax on the patio outside, Boylan has it all. You truly can’t go wrong with either of these two options! P.S. To get the full experience, make sure to get a pitcher of bold rock and an order of the after school special at Boylan, or a round of flavored margaritas and an order of the honey bbq boneless wings at Asado.
