The Corner in Charlottesville is located on University Avenue and is notorious for its bars and nightlife. From Japanese sake bombs served at Kuma to the famous “Wahoo” juice at Boylan Heights, the Corner has it all. The time has finally come to settle the long-time debate: which bar is the best Corner bar? After reaching out to fourth year friends, recently graduated alumni, and even a few Charlottesville townies, the top 5 rankings have been settled.
5. The Virginian
Coming in at #5, we have The Virginian. The Virginian is a small spot in between Sheetz and Mincer’s that doesn’t stand out, but is a hidden gem. Although its presence may be subtle, there’s nothing better than opening the door and entering this crazy and energetic bar. The Virginian is best known for its table dancing and wild energy. Dancing on the tables at the end of a great night out at The Virginian just “hits different”! 10/10 ranking!
4. Coupe Deville’s
Next, we have Coupe’s! Coupe’s is a bar on Elliewood Avenue that also is hidden on the street. It may not seem like much at first, but once you go down the stairs and enter the bar, it is a whole new world. Coupe’s is best known for its live music and outdoor drinking area in the back of the bar. Going to this bar on a summer night with a couple friends while sipping on a cocktail and listening to live music is a must for UVA students!
3. Boylan Heights
In 3rd place, we have the famous Boylan Heights. Boylan Heights is a two story bar with a sitting area in the first floor and a huge space upstairs for dancing! Also, Boylan may be the only bar in Charlottesville with its own signature drink, the Wahoo. The Wahoo itself could put Boylan Heights in the top 3 rankings of Corner bars! The drink’s recipe may be a secret, but all you need to know is that it is blue and delicious. Everyone must go to Boylan Heights for their Wahoos!
2. Trinity Irish Pub
You can’t rank bars on the Corner without mentioning arguably the most iconic bar on the street: Trinity Irish Pub, better known as Trin. If you’re ever on the Corner at 10PM on a Friday night and see a huge line, 9 times out of 10 it’s to get into Trin. Trinity has 3 floors and is usually so crowded that you can barely get through the crowd! It has a balcony to chill at, DJ on the third floor with great music, and bartenders on every floor. It is also conveniently located right next to Sheetz so you can get amazing “drunchies” after a night of dancing. Trin is a “must-go” for sure!
1. The Biltmore
Finally! Coming in 1st place, we have The Biltmore! The Biltmore is an indoor and outdoor bar on Elliewood that no one can miss. It has beautiful string lights on their patio and lots of great decor including a life size Captain Morgan. The Biltmore has a bar outside on their patio and also two inside the actual restaurant. The patio is great about the Biltmore, but the best part about it is their Survivor Hour. Survivor Hours are usually on Thursdays from 7 to 8PM and all of their cocktails are only $2! Although we must warn you, the crowds can get huge and super tight! The combination of the great environment and Survivor Hour puts The Biltmore at #1 as the best bar on the Corner.
And there you have it! The top 5 bars on the Corner at UVA, ranked. With that being said, this ranking is all for fun and all the bars on the Corner are amazing and worth a visit. Which bar is your favorite?
