This past Tuesday, in an email sent out to students, faculty, staff, and the university community, UVa announced they would be enforcing stricter measures in response to a sharp uptick in covid cases since students returned to grounds.
Some of the new measures include a strict ban on any in-person meeting event for any club, all on-grounds students told to not leave their residence hall unless for an essential activity including going to a job or picking up a meal, and gyms and libraries now having very limited, if any, hours of operation.
The new measures are expected to remain until Feb.26 at which time the case numbers will be evaluated and any necessary further action will be taken. The new measures were met with disapproval from many students, though recent covid data suggests the new UK variant strain has been found within the community, which is deemed more contagious.
