The Washington Society, or “The Wash” is an organization dedicated to the pursuit of literary culture and the art of oratory at UVA. Founded in 1831, the Society has a rich tradition as well as an active membership of more than 100 students from all disciplines. Weekly meetings consist of literary presentations and parliamentary style debate. The Wash also hosts special events such as literary competitions, special debates, and debate tournaments. The Wash are open to all experience levels.
